Directions to the Abbey
The Monastery, Fort Augustus Abbey; Fort Augustus Inverness-shire PH32 4BJ
By Road from Glasgow(139.0 miles)
This route takes in Glencoe, perhaps Scotland’s most famous and most scenic glen.
From Glasgow, take the A82 north, along the banks of the beautiful Loch Lomond.
Continue on the A82 to Crianlarich, where the terrain becomes barren and wild as you pass through Rannoch Moor. We almost always see red deer on the moors, paticularly in the twilight.
The A82 then takes you through the valley of Glencoe – home of the famous Glencoe Massacre – and along the banks of Loch Linnhe to Fort William.
Travel through Fort William on the A82, to Spean Bridge, with a stunning viewpoint at the Commando Memorial.
From Spean Bridge (still on the A82), follow the banks of Loch Lochy and Loch Oich, to arrive in Fort Augustus, and Fort Augustus Abbey.
This stunning drive takes in the best of the Scottish highlands: far reaching views over the hills, deep valleys with fast-moving rivers, peaceful little lochs and occasional glimpses of the mighty Loch Ness.
From Inverness Airport, take the A96 to Inverness.
In Inverness, turn right on the A9 toward Perth, and follow the A9 for 5.4 miles.
Turn right onto the B851, and follow this road for 13.5 miles,
Turn left onto the B862, and follow this road for approx 16.5 miles to Fort Augustus.
The gates to the Fort Augustus Abbey are on your right as you enter Fort Augustus.
